Hoian Transport

Hoi An has been through a few centuries of history, but still remains as in the very first days of its being born. There are many ways to visit here.

Depending on time and monetary constraints, there are a variety of ways to reach Hoi An. Almost all modes of transport end in the city of Danang and from there it is a 45 minute journey (either taxi, motorbike or car) to Hoi An. Both Jetstar and Vietnam Airlines fly to Danang at least daily.

For the slightly more adventurous (or slightly poorer), the overnight train departs Hanoi at 7pm and arrives in Danang at approximately 10.30am the next day.

Airway: 

Currently, Chu Lai airport - a military airbase built by American army before 1975- has been upgraded and some domestic flights have been made. Chu Lai is one of the six most modern airports in Vietnam with 3,000 hectares in area , a 3,050-metre runway, good air quiet level, no fog, which can meet the demand of serving such big airplanes as Boeing, Airbus... In the future, Chu Lai airport will be able to serve international passenger and commodity flights in North Asia, and Pacific area.

Most guests coming to Quang Nam or emiting from Quang Nam by air must land on Danang International Airport, some coming from Ho Chi Minh City land on Chu Lai Airport. With the distance of 30 km from Hoi An & 70 km from Tam Ky to Danang Airport and 25 km from Tam Ky & 80 km from Hoi An to Chu Lai Airport, they easily choose suitable flights for their journeys.

Waterway:

Quang Nam Province has 8 river systems of 200km in length equally disposed all over the province to facilitate the transportation of goods and passengers for 5-25 ton ships. Many of these river systems have poetic sceneries suitable for the exploitation of waterway tourism such as Thu Bon, Vu gia, Truong Giang, Tam Ky..

In Quang Nam, waterway network to tourist sites is very convinient.

- From Hoi An to Cham Island , guests can go by high-speed boats cemitted at Cua Dai Port with the journey of 20 minutes or going by wooden boats at Bach Dang Port in the center of the ancient town of about 2 hours.

- From Hoi An to Kim Bong Carpentry Village, Thanh Ha Pottery Village, Ban Thach Mat Weaving Village, Thuan Tinh Eco- Tourism Zone, Bay Mau Coconut Forest Vestige Zones or My Son Vestige Zone and Tourist Spots along Thu Bon River, Truong Giang River by waterway, guests should rent small boats with the cavity of 20 people because of their easy activity on dry rivers in summer. However, please not to use them in stormy days in case of danger.

Railway:

Most guests going to Quang Nam or coming from Quang Nam by train must stop at Da Nang or Tamky Railway Station. Da Nang Railway Station is a big station with the system of modern facilities. Everyday, there are many domestic trains. If guests are emitted in Hoi An, they can book tickets in sales agents in Hoi An as well as in hotels where they are staying with the railway station’s fixed price plus a small service fee. Train ticket costs vary according to train types and classes chosen by passengers.

The north-south railway crossing Quang Nam Province is 95km long through Tra Kieu, Phu Cang, Tam Ky, Diem Pho, Chu Lai stations.

By Land:

Bus

The main Hoi An bus station (96 Hung Vuong Street) is 1km west of the centre of town. Buses from here go to Danang (one hour), Quang Ngai and other points. More frequent services to Danang leave from the northern bus station (Le Hong Phong Street) from 5am until the late afternoon.

A regular stop on the open-bus route, it’s easy to pick up a service to or from Hué (four hours) or Nha Trang (11 to 12 hours).

Car & motorbike

To get to Danang (30km) you can either head north out of town and join up with Hwy 1A, or east to Cua Dai Beach and follow the excellent new road along China Beach.
