Most travellers who are staying in Da Nang for a few days or more will want to check out the region's white-sandy beaches and coastline, which provide a very different kind of resort-style Vietnam. The South China Sea is highly suitable for swimming and never cold, and innumerable water sports are available at the principal beaches, such as diving, snorkelling and water-skiing. The most popular nearby stretches include Bac My An Beach, My Khe Beach, Nam O Beach and Non Nuoc Beach, each of which has an undeniable tropical flavour. It is expected that future developments around the Son Tra peninsula will further increase local tourism appeal.
Non Nuoc Beach (formerly China Beach)
A sandy stretch located on the very outskirts of Da Nang and well-known for its natural beauty, Non Nuoc Beach was once an R&R destination for US soldiers during the Vietnam War. Today, Non Nuoc is now a community of guest houses and eateries set along a beautiful beach backed by palm trees, with more isolated beaches just a short distance away.
My Khe Beach
Some 6 km / 4 miles east of downtown Da Nang and over the Song Han Bridge is the 7-km / 4-mile expanse of My Khe Beach, lined with eateries, guest houses and bars. Water sports are well-catered for in this lively easterly suburb, and the sea is calm and suitable for children.
Nam O Beach
Situated approximately 17 km / 11 miles to the north-west of Da Nang and offering boat rides to destinations such as both Hoa Bang and Hoa Bac, Nam O Beach lies within the Lien Chieu district. Nam O is of great historical significance, since it was here where the very first combat troops from the USA landed in 1965.
Bac My An Beach
Around 7 km / 4 miles from the city centre and within the Ngu Hanh Son district, Bac My An Beach lies to the south-east and is where you will find the Furama resort.
